I often get asked if hypnotherapy with children is safe, and yes it is, there are a couple of points I would like to add however, but for the most part it is common sense. Children work particularly well with hypnosis because quite simply they have excellent imaginations. Hypnotherapy by a good hypnotherapist will require the subject to be able to use imagination to some degree, that can be stumbling block for some, but not very often for children, that's the easy bit for them.
It goes without saying supervision by a parent or guardian is paramount. I would never work with child alone, and I would never work with ANYONE under the age of 18 without parents consent and them being present if it were a "one to one" session. If anyone asks to work with a child or young adult alone....refuse. How young can they be? Well really the limit is they must be able to understand you, so really 5 or 6. Hypnotherapy is only story telling, so if they can understand a story, then a good hypnotherapist can include the help within the story without them even knowing. They should however inform the parents of what they are attempting, and consult with them if they agree this is suitable. Using animals instead of humans in the story, and placing an animal in the same situation as the child (bringing in the problem) is a very good approach. Then the idea would be is to get the child to help the animal. Completely turning around a fearful situation into a one where they are the hero and in control. A good hypnotherapist would be able to do something like this, but there are other ways, always ask the therapist what they intend to do. IF you don't agree with it, then do not go ahead with it.
Reality Check Just keep an eye on your child or speak to them to ensure they know that the story they have been told under hypnosis is a story. The same as watching a film on TV it can be fantasy, and must not be acted out. I have not come across this problem, but it is something just worth keeping an eye on.

More on Confidence
I having written 3 other blogs on confidence and I will explain why. (but if you want to see what else I have written tab down to the menu of labels on the left hand side and click on the relevant link) Confidence is so important in everything we do, and it is very easy to lose confidence and that can be pretty devastating to our life's. In particular with relationships, work, and even social life be that on the sport field or even on a stage. It can even effect exams, it is important to be in the right frame of mind for exams, and so a loss of confidence is certainly NOT in the right frame of mind.
Hypnotherapy does work well with hypnotherapy, and I always add in some confidence with EVERY session I do, and that is with a one on one session, or a personal CD, there is no difference. Confidence boosting is added in everytime in some form or other, every time.
With some of the examples that I have used above it is more than likely a personal situation that only effects you, so a personal CD would be the right choice for you. That costs £30.00, if that is a little too much I do have a pre-recorded CD. Confidence and plenty of it, and that is £15.00 so a good way to start.
You can order either of these on

Insomnia & Sleeplessness help by Hypnotherapy
As you might imagine hypnotherapy and Insomnia (Sleeplessness) do go very well together. But rather than using hypnotherapy as just a "sleeping pill" (as that is for sure what it can be used as and very effectively) rather than that though, it can be used to sort out the root cause of the problem. That is what hypnotherapy should be used for.
So really hypnotherapy is a good option short term and long term for this sort of problem, if you would like to ask any question about Insomnia or order a personal CD for this or any other problem just email me on mail@hypnotherapy-online.co.uk

Hypnosis & Past Life Regression
Past Life Regression, I have blogged about this just go to the links on the side and you will see that easily enough.
What I would like to say is that if you are considering Past Life Regression, it is important that your therapist that you choose does brief you on the quite high possibility that the life you get memories of, or are regressed to, could well be quite emotional. That is mainly for two reasons, 1) Life was shorter and there was a lot more famine, early deaths, and poverty as we go back in time. 2) You are probably going to go back over a WHOLE LIFETIME in just 20 minutes, so there is no doubt that within that lifetime you will experience someone dying, within your past life.
I always ensure my clients are 100% briefed on both of those facts above, because you must be prepared for this, it could come as a bit of a shock if you are not. It is really all common sense, but it isn't always thought about before going ahead with this, and I think that is a mistake. Yes it could put a client off, and they might decide not to go ahead, well that is right if that happens, the client was obviously not prepared properly and it could cause problems if they feel the reality of death is going to be too much for them.
So check with your therapist, ask him a leading question, if he/she does not warn or mention this in anyway, I would avoid them myself. I would be very interested to hear anyone's experience about this point, or indeed about any past life regression experience.
The rewards of course are that you can if you get enough information look up further details later, in the library or nowadays on the internet. It is possible that some people speak foreign languages that is an amazing experience.
I always record past life regression sessions, so that nothing is missed, it's impossible to remember everything that is said. I also swap around, from say age 10 to 40, then back to 20, then to 60, and so on depending on what is being said. But this really proves beyond less doubt that the subject is able to make this all up, and indeed remember it that well. I ask for spellings of names as well. So plenty of experience to use to be able to make this session as rewarding as possible.
If you have any questions, or would like to enquire about a past life session, the cost is £40 for an hour and a half session, where it can all be done in one go.

Daily Mail Advice on IBS and Web Cures
You know the Tuesday edition of the Daily Mail and the "Good Health" section has masses of information about alternative medicine and I always find it gives a very fair account as well, and if there is any credibility to be found, then the writer or the newspaper gives the credit, equally if they find the information to be poor, then quite rightly they will say so.
In this Tuesday's 13th April edition it has a perfect example of that. With an in-depth article about Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) written by Lucy Elkins. She also has had the help of professional advice from Dr Nick Read amongst others. Lucy has looked at a lot of the so called Web Cures for IBS. Then dissected the site with the help of the Doctor to ascertain if the cure that they profess to have, is in fact credible, or not.
The article also suggests that it is of some people's view (Liverpool Hope University study at least) a lot of the advice could actually be thrown away and a well balanced diet could be the answer. While a good balanced diet is excellent advice, I think there is a little more to it than that myself. But we have to remember Lucy is quite rightly putting across all views across the spectrum and a good balanced diet is spot on, no question about that.
There is no doubt in my mind some of the websites that have been visited here are way out, and a waste of money. So for the sufferer for sure a complete minefield, and when you are feeling low then some of these websites can sound like the perfect answer. But, can cost a lot of money. So it is good to see that the newspaper has looked at this in detail.
As it happens, Hypnotherapy has come out very well indeed and it has been shown that "impressive results for IBS in the short term" Now that in my opinion is perfect for this particular problem, getting results quickly is what the client needs. I always say that if hypnotherapy can give you help short term, then in my opinion there are NO limits to what it can actually do for you, short, medium or long term. I think the quote is put like that because it is what the results of the tests that have been carried out. All good news as far as I can see.
I have written other articles myself about IBS, just click on the IBS on label's menu, I am very high believer in that IBS is stress related, (and indeed this certainly ties in with having a good diet) but reducing stress levels can help, hypnotherapy is PERFECT for doing that, I see no harm in trying hypnotherapy and see how you go with it. I make no promises at all, but it can only be relaxing for you, and it does have the ability to really make in-roads into this condition, I have seen it many times. Talk to your local hypnotherapist and see what his/her opinions are on it, if you like the sound of him/her then try and book up a free or trial appointment for further advice or information before making a decision. If you want to email me and ask any questions, then please do, I will always give a balanced opinion with the facts that you give to me on a case to case basis.

Hypnobirthing Giving Birth by Hypnosis
The question they asked today in the Daily Mail is does it really work? A fair question, and the article written in the Mail I think is pretty fair comment. It gives two sides of the story, some people it has done wonders for, and some not so positive. Well that just about sums up hypnotherapy for you, works for some really really well, works for others quite well, and for some it's just not going to work. In the example in the newspaper the course was £240, now that's quite a lot of money for something that "might" work. If you are interested in this, then I can record you a personal CD which will. A) Certainly prove one way or the other if this is going to work for you. B) The CD is all you might need, this can have the potential for you to learn self hypnosis and not require any further courses or having to spend out anymore than my fee of £30. I would do this in the form of a storyline as I always do, and it would teach you how to go into self hypnosis within the storyline, so you could use that at any given time. If you are interested then just email me on mail@hypnotherapy-online.co.uk and if you want to read the article in the Daily Mail it is here. Daily Mail Article on Hypnobirthing

A list of Hynotherapy Organisations
This is by far a comprehensive list folks, if you know of any others and want them included just email me on mail@hypnotherapy-online.co.uk I will add it. Also this list does NOT endorse any of the various organisations either. I hardly know them, it is purely and simply a list. However I belong to the British Institute of Hypnotherapy (BIH) and I can certainly endorse that one.
These are important, each one has various guidelines to what there members should adhere to, and also the standard of training that they should undergo. So a good Organisation with excellent standard of practice and well run, will generally have good hypnotherapist's within their membership.
Is this a perfect set up? Far from it, there are far too many. However the OVERALL standard of practice is being addressed, so that each Organisation will have to conform to what the "big chief" of organisations says. At the moment they are still free to do what they feel is good practice but to really get on they have to be in with the "big click". I don't know enough about any of them other than mine to comment, but if you do want to know anymore I will try and help. It is a bit of minefield, but it is being brought into line, slowly but surely.

Ericksonian Hypnotherapy Milton H Erickson

The Ericksonian method of hypnotherapy was invented by of the most influential hypnotherapist's of the 20th Century. His approach was radically different from anything that had been practiced before. His informal conversational method and use of language patterns and different therapeutic strategies were something that had never been seen before. This led to the method of NLP Neurolinguistic Programming to be invented, however there are others that dispute this. Once learnt and practiced the Ericksonian method is quite simple to use, however it does without any doubt require some degree of practice, but given that practice it is a very relaxed and informal way of working with any client.
The method includes many "indirect" suggestions, suggestions that are brought into the conversation but without being a direct suggestion, I suppose you could call that a disguised suggestion. When working with children a parent gives these out all the time. "Stop being so Clumsy" If repeated often enough the child will think that they are clumsy, when of course they are just being typical children and not really paying attention to what they are doing. So the order "pay attention" would be much better to use.
This method of conversation as I said is EASY, but it just takes careful thought and yes practice, but there is nothing difficult about it at all.

Hypnotherapy for Nail Biting
Actually one of my pet hates is seeing people biting nails in public, I don't mind if people want to do it, but in public YUCK. It looks terrible, so why do we do it. Well a lot of people do it because they are nervous, but most I think do it because of just very simply HABIT. They start when they are young and just never stop! Besides looking bad, it leaves your nails looking pretty bad as well. Obviously it's not a very healthy thing to do with the high probability of taking germs from under your nails into your mouth. So lots against nail biting. But it is just like any other habit, it can be quite hard to break, you have to make an concerted effort once you decide to stop. Hypnotherapy can CERTAINLY help that process, and if you are interested in stopping nail biting with the aid of hypnotherapy through a CD, then I can record you a personal one which will greatly enhance your chances of success, that can be ordered on my main website (link in the margin) Or of course you can email me direct, on mail@hypnotherapy-online.co.uk Good Luck!

10 March 2010 Stop Smoking Day
Well sometimes you need an incentive to stop, there are plenty of them. But you know you also need a day when you choose to stop, why not choose Stop Smoking Day?
Lets look at various incentives. Financial Well in UK a pack of cigerettes is £5! So thats £35 a week saved on an average of 20 a day. Its a whooping £140 a month! If you are a couple of smokers, well it does not take a mathematic genius to work out that is a massive £280 a month. Health
Smokers actually do know all the risks, but they try and push them to one side and forget about them, they very carefully sweep them under the carpet. It is FACT that smoking seriously damages your health, there is NO question about that, if you don't believe that then quite simply your are a smoker trying to hide from the truth. Smoking is highly likely to shorten your life, and before we hear the stories of granny being a smoker for 40 or 50 years, yes we all know they are those that get away with it. However for every one granny getting away with it, there scores of others that have not. Another FACT. Your Family This goes along with health really, but you OWE it to your family to try and quit, you ask the younger ones of your family if they want you to smoke or not? The answer is easy, of course they don't, and they will tell you that.
If you want help with stopping smoking, you can email me, or perhaps look at my pre-recorded CD, Stop Smoking that can be found on
Stop Smoking CD
or you may of course prefer a personal CD, which you can follow the link on the side of this blog which will take you to the correct page to order

Improve Your Self Image and confidence
There is no doubt that confidence and self image go hand in hand. If you struggle with confidence your self image is also effected, and its no surprise that works vice versa as well. So if you would like to improve in these areas it is also important to look at all the problems that you feel like you suffer from. There could be just one certain area that needs boosting, as that is effecting all the others, or at least your overall feeling of confidence. This is not as complicated as it sounds, it is quite simply to review all of your self image or confidence factors, and decide which ones are worst, or causing the most damage. Hypnotherapy is amazingly quick to act, and it can just be a matter of a few hours when you start to feel improvements, especially if the right areas have been targeted correctly.

Feeling ill - But you are not ill?
This is quite a common problem. You feel something is not quite right, you go to the doctors and he/she can't find anything. The doctor gives you some pills and you go away not feeling as if anything has really been done to help you. But really the doctor is correct there is nothing really wrong, a few aches and pains maybe.....but from that a psychological problem could start. Then if not correctly diagnosed turn into a severe psychological problem that could be quite difficult to shake off. Diagnosing this can take time, the doctors don't really have this sort of time to spare.
If we have small aches and pains sometimes we have to realise that age is a factor and we have to accept them now and again. Shake them off, get some fresh and exercise and try your best not to let them get the better of you. If they start to take over your life, then these small aches and pains are winning. Don't let them win. Easy for me to say that, but it is true, hypnotherapy can be quite helpful with these kinds of situations.......when everyone is telling you one thing, but you don't believe it. You have to change that thought process, and there is only ONE person that can do that, and that is yourself. So on some occasions you may need some help, there is no shame in that, and that is a perfect example of when a hypnotherapist can be of great help.
Above all else however, if you are UNSURE, then visit your doctor.

More Thanks for Emetophobia Fear Relief
Hi Paul, I just wanted to write to you to say a HUGE thank you! A couple of years ago I contacted you because I have a fear of being sick. My fear was so extreme, everyday life was becoming increasingly dificult. You recorded a personal cd for me which then sat in my drawer for about a year before I plucked up the courage to try and get rid of my fear and listen to it!! I am now pleased to say that, although I am not over the fear, I can eat out, have been abroad - ON A PLANE! and now my partner xxxx and I are expecting our first baby - something I never thought I'd cope with. Thank you SO VERY much.
Kind Regards,

More on Panic Attacks
If you click on the link "Panic Attacks" on the side of the blog you can see all the articles that I have written about this subject.
Panic attacks can be a problem on their own, or they can be within another fear of phobia. It is important to try and ensure that you know which your particular problem is, as it would be in my opinion beneficial to treat the over-riding fear first as this could in fact solve the panic attacks. That is not a guarentee but it is worth trying. Panic attacks do happen for a reason, it is normally a reaction to a threat, (hence why panic attacks are often the result of another fear) and it is hormones in the body reacting to something, adrenaline could be a major factor. So without help, it is quite difficult to contain or change.
The problem can often continue quite a long time after another attack, this is because we then live in the fear of another attack, so we create a vicious circle of worry and anxiety. It is estimated that 1 in 10 people exerience the occasional panic attack.
The symptoms of a panic attack are many, but at worst they could be similar to a heart attack, but of course it is not as serious as that, but the fear can make it feel as if it is. Symptoms include chest pain, breathlessness and pounding heartbeat, and could also include sweating, dizziness, so it could well be confused with a heart attack. Often symptoms are not quite so dramatic but they can still be quite scary, and they could include trembling or shaking, headache, exhaustion.
If you have ANY questions about panic attacks, please do not hesitate to email me

Insomnia & Hypnotherapy
Insomnia can effect it is estimated about one in four people at some time in their life. Sleep is of course very important as it gives a person time to rest and build up strength. Not getting enough sleep will leave a person very drained and exhausted, it could also effect performance, lack of concentration. It can also cause problems within a relationship as it is highly likely someone who has insomnia will become irritable.
This is however quite difficult to judge and work out what effect it will have on one person as against another, as some people will always need more sleep than others.
We usually require less sleep the older we get, with babies requiring as much as 16 or 17 hours a day, to a child requiring 9 or 10 hours, to an adult 7 to 9 hours.
Insomnia if lasting over a long period of time, (over 3 weeks for example) can cause other problems so it might be wise to visit your doctor.
Hypnotherapy is excellent with Insomnia for two reasons, it can help with the physical aspects of the lack of sleep, and also the mental aspects, perhaps there could be a reason why you are unable to relax, then hypnotherapy can certainly help in those circumstances, in fact hypnotherapy is very effective with all types of insomnia. Please just email me on mail@hypnotherapy-online.co.uk if you would like to know anything more specific about your insomnia problem.

Hypnotherapy Directory Org Uk
There is quite a new Hypnotherapy Directory online now, The idea is that the hypnotherapists are are listed in county order. They also build up a personal profile that can include any interesting or additional information about them. To join all qualifications and insurance details must be checked, and the professional body that the therapist belongs to are contacted. Its free at the moment for therapists to join, and next year when the subscription is due to start in the spring, the therapists can either opt out, or pay a very reasonable fee to stay. The website is quick and very informative.

Claustraphobia - Testimonial
You helped me overcome my fear of being closed in when I wrote to you over 1 year ago. I should have also mentioned at that time that part of that fear was that I would not travel in a lift due to being stuck in one some 20 years ago.
While I now feel comfortable travelling in small aircraft and buses, when the doors close I have still not overcome the lift phobia, which does have a direct impact on my life.
I have unfortunatley lost the CD you made for me and I now wonder if you could produce a new one for me based on the lift situation, which I appreciate is very similar.
Best Regards

Fear of Exams
If you have a fear of exams, whatever kind of exam that may be, A driving test, A written exam, a practical exam, even a work exam, hypnotherapy can help. Help you to stay calm, and help you recall information better, and able you to concentrate to get the important parts of the information over to whatever you are doing.
Here is a thank you email I received quite recently.
Hi Paul,
I just wanted to mail you to say thankyou so much for getting my cd with me in time for my exams. You were definitely right about the benefits of the personal cd and I feel like it's really targetted the key problem areas for me, so thankyou!!
I was going to email you sooner to tell you the improvement, however didn't want to jinx myself for the rest of my exams! My final exam was on Friday last week and I sat in each exam perfectly calmly without panicking and wrote down everything I knew, it was so refreshing to be 'like everyone else' infact I would go as far to say that everyone else was a whole lot more wound up than I was!
That's uni over for me now and I have got a fantastic new job that I feel extremely settled in, but I wanted to just say thankyou for helping me through my final stint at uni, there was a point where I couldn't imagine sitting in the exam hall.
Many thanks,

Fear of Public Speaking
This fear can often start from a memory of an incident at school, I think most people can remember a time when they have been put on the spot, and making rather a mess of it, and sitting down feeling rather embarrassed. That is quite common way for this phobia to start. When you really know that you have a fear however is when you start to avoid situations. It may be even giving a briefing at work, or holding a small meeting. It could be at college and having to hold a presentation. They are all examples of early stages of the fear of public speaking. I usually advise along with a personal CD, is to ensure you practice your timing, nearly ALL presentations run UNDER time, so its important to get the timing right, equally you certainly do not want to go over time. Practice makes perfect. Hypnotherapy can help you to stay calm, and focussed, feeling completely different from what you have felt before when you stand up to talk.
If you would like to contact me, please use the link, and the same applies if you would like to order a personal CD, there is a link direct to that.

Ornithophobia A Fear of Birds
Ornithophobia, A fear of Birds is quite a common fear, and again it is one of those fears USUALLY picked up from young. A bird flying towards a young person can be frightening, some birds can be pretty big, especially if you are small. So normally an incident like this would be shaken off, but as with a lot of fears that I have spoken about, its not. Cities are usually the worst place, and a person with this fear will probably hate going into a City such as London or Paris, but there are plenty of others, that's just a very small example.
As with most fears, a person that does have a fear think's that they are the only person with that fear, completely untrue, lots of people have Ornithophobia.
This fear can be overcome, and I have had good success with this fear, I understand your problem if you have this fear.
Please just email me for further information, or go to

Fear of Flying and Claustraphobia
This is what makes this job so satisfying. This lady was terrified of flying & lifts, it was feeling of being enclosed she did not like.
Hi Paul
I just wanted to email and thank you for your CD. We flew to America the week of the bomb scares and although I was aware of that situation and a bit cautious, I wasn't worried about the actual take off and landing and they were fine, in fact once we were up and level, I felt I wanted to do it again there and then. I wondered if it was the diazepam that had done the trick but flying home I didn't take any and I was fine.
Thank you again, and oh yes, you included the bit for my fear of lifts, that proved a big help, the lift to our apartment was terrible it rattled and shook up and down to the 6th floor but again I was fine.

Fear of the Dentist
It's quite understandable I receive quite a lot of requests for help with a fear of the Dentist. It has always been a problem, and even though over the past 10 or 20 years the procedures have improved no end. It still seems to be a problem. The procedures now really have changed, it fact there is no comparison now, to what it was like when I was a child. The effects of a local now only last an hour afterwards, and you don't that horrible tingly feeling any longer.
But however much you give comfort to someone with this fear it tends to make little difference. A relative can give comfort, a friend can give advice, and the dentist can give assurance but at the end of the day it is YOU, that has to believe. That is why hypnotherapy is such a good option. It helps you to do that process of believing. REALLY believing that you can sit in the chair and RELAX.
Being tense is half the problem.
Some people have slightly different worries about why they don't like the dentist, but that does not make any difference from my point of view, just let me know you particular fear and I will help you with that.
If you would like to talk to me about this, follow the link at the top of the page.
